Yesterday morning
[04 September 2010] dawned wet and misty over Middleton. At mid day it was raining quite hard and the doubters among us were beginning to think that the "Open Garden, Plant Sale and Cream Teas" event being organised by Margaret Swinnerton and a small team of helpers, was doomed to damp disaster.

Oh we of little faith! Margaret's organising ability includes the weather. By one thirty the clouds were rolling back, by two o'clock it was warming up and by the opening time of two thirty the sun was shining.

Plants were sold, tea and scones and cakes were consumed, the raffle was held and by six o'clock £525 had been raised for the National Coastwatch Institution.
