Chinese Cuisine

Tuesday 24th March, saw the second of our culinary evenings/fundraisers. Following the success, last year, of our 'Curry Night' at the Penclawdd Tandoori, we ventured this time into the delights of Chinese cuisine at The Sea Garden Restaurant, also in the Penclawdd area.
This year I 'did a deal' with the owner, Jonny, whereby I promised him at least 100 diners (mostly those who also enjoy a tipple at the bar!). In return he gave me a rate on his usual Sunday 'all you can eat' buffet, of £6.00 per head (normally on a Sunday lunchtime the price is £9.95)
This allowed me to sell the tickets at a very reasonable price of £10 per head which included a free raffle!
In a nutshell - or could that be in a lychee! - we made a net profit of £400 exactly, after taking out some of the gross profit for raffle prizes.
All in all we were 101 people who sat down - 'sat down' being the optimum word(s), as unlike the Penclawdd Tandoori, we were served at the table as opposed to queueing for our food, which turned out to be a bit of a bun fight!
The food itself turned out to be of the highest standard - rich in monosodium glutamate!! - and plentiful indeed. The service from manager Christine and her staff was also first class and this was reflected in the generous gratuity collected from the diners. I have had several emails from members and friends saying how much they enjoyed the evening and with that in mind I think we should consider a repeat performance later in the year.
Bill - get your carving tools out, I'm after the Golden Chopsticks Award at the next annual dinner!
