1859 - The Eliza, was wrecked off Mumbles Head during the 'Royal Charter Gale' (so-called because of the catastrophic gale of 1859 when the Royal Charter was wrecked off Anglesey with the loss of over 400 lives, during what was described as “a complete horizontal cyclone” ).   (Ref: 102)
