1838 – The Feronia was a schooner homeward bound from Ulverston to Aberavon with a cargo of iron ore. She struck the Mixons and started to take on water. She floated off at high tide but began to sink as she ran for Mumbles. The crew was saved by a couple of pilot boats heading down channel, who transferred them to another schooner, the Wave, who took them into Swansea. The schooner pilots were given a cash reward by the Lifeboat Institution and the master of the Wave was awarded a silver medal. (Ref: 093)
