1919 - The SS Tyne was laden with cement from London and making for Swansea to pick up more. In thick fog she was in collision with the French schooner Fleur du Mer, heading out from Cardiff, and cut the French vessel in two. The crew of the schooner scrambled into the boat they were towing and after some searching the Tyne took them on board. Some time later the Tyne ran aground off Rotherslade but conditions were calm and everyone got ashore safely. The Tyne was successfully refloated. The state of the Fleur du Mer (not to be confused with the Fleur de France, wrecked the following year) is not recorded.. (Ref: 088)
