1872 – The Antonio Luca was one of several vessels that went down in a storm said to exceed “anything experienced since the Royal Charter gale of 1859” . She was an Italian barque bound from Newcastle to Venice, laden with coal, coke and bricks, driven off course and up the Bristol Channel and wrecked on Oxwich Point. (Ref. 058)[The Antonio Luca is a good illustration of the difficulty of tracing some wrecks. There are local versions of some names - Vernani for the Vennerne, Annie Money for the Anemone - but it wasn't till I found the name Antonio Luca that I realised that it tied in a wreck known as the Antion Aluce or even the Antion Alice.]
