Epidauro

1913 – The Epidauro was an Austrian steamship bound in ballast from Genoa to Swansea. She went ashore in thick fog at Washlade. Four men managed to bring a boat round to Port Eynon and roused the lifeboat. They arrived at the ship to rescue three seamen who had been thrown into the sea when another of the ship's boats capsized, and the lifeboat stood by until the rest of the crew could get themselves ashore on the ebb tide. The Captain remained on board overnight but the vessel was beyond saving and had to be broken up where she lay. (Ref. 030)
