1894 – The Glenravil Miner, carrying a cargo of pitch, was driven on to rocks at Longhole Gut in mountainous seas. The crew struggled to launch a boat and headed for open water where they were picked up by another schooner, the Jane Shearer. They transferred to the lifeboat when it arrived but the ship broke up on the rocks. Traces of the pitch can still be seen on the rocks between Red Gut and Longhole Gut. (Ref. 028)
