1879 - The Sofia was a 148 ton brig in ballast. Heading up the Bristol Channel on its voyage from Naples to Swansea a south-east gale blew up and it was driven on to the rocks at Longhole Gut. The crew and the pilot struggled safely ashore. (Ref. 027)
