1933 – The SS Ben Blanche, of 255 ton and with a cargo of potatoes, was driven ashore in thick fog below Paviland cliffs. The rocket crew and the Mumbles lifeboat went to the rescue but the ship was found abandoned and submerged. The crew had got away safely in their boat and were picked up by the lifeboat. Potatoes were to be had for the taking, strewn along the rocks below the cliff. (Ref. 023)
